Yenai is a merfolk loremaster from Sea Gate, who refused to join Gideon's forces there during the Battle for Zendikar, after seeing it fall to the Eldrazi.

Description

Yenai is old and scarred, with the darkened scales of one who had spent too long away from water. His accent sounded Sejiri, and he spoke like someone who expected to be listened to even so far from home.

History

After travelling from his ruined home of Sejiri, Yenai spent some time at the Sea Gate. When that too fell to the Eldrazi, Yenai took his merfolk remnants, including Kiora's sister Turi, and swam away in the hopes that they would find some kind of shelter in Murasa. Kiora tried to convince them to join her going back to Sea Gate, where Ulamog was headed, but they refused to join her. Even her sister denied Kiora her aid, preferring to stay with Yenai and his band.

Frustrated, Kiora antagonized Yenai with stories of the Trickster god Cosi, took the few recuits she had managed to convince, and then appointed a few of them to take extra care of her sister while she was away, and swam off.
