Status | Threatened by dragonstorms |
The eastern Tiansun mountain range and its waterways are the territory of the Jeskai Way, and formerly the Ojutai brood, on Tarkir. It is a region with tall volcanic peaks and lowland planes dotted with large lakes.[1][2]
Description
The climate is cold much of the year, but snowmelt in the spring fuels the large rivers that provide much of the transportation and food for the Jeskai.[2] Jeskai territory directly borders Mardu and Temur lands.
Known locations
- Cori Mountain Monastery
— A remote and difficult-to-access red-aligned monastery built in the flooded caldera of a volcano.[2] Tall pagodas soar skyward and cooled obsidian lava flows jut out in arcs against the crystal blue waters of the caldera lake.[3] It is surrounded by vibrant orange and red flora due to the abundance of volcanic minerals.
- Dirgur Lake Monastery
— A large and imposing blue-aligned monastery located on a floating island with bridges connecting it to a large fishing village along the shallow waters and shores of the lake.[4] Dirgur Monastery is the closest Jeskai location to the Salt Road and is often visited by other clans' diplomats and merchants.
- Highspire Monastery
—A smaller mountaintop monastery where the giant mantises and their caretakers reside. Most monks at Highspire practice a mixture of teachings from the three main monasteries.
- Pearl Lake
— A large glistening lake nestled in the mountains near a remote Jeskai monastery. Many monks will journey there to meditate in the serene landscape.
- Qadat, the Fire Rim
— A region on the northern border of Jeskai territory in an inaccessible mountain range near Qal Sisma, known for its volcanic activity and yeti inhabitants.
- Riverwheel Village
— A small settlement built into the face of a cliff. The citizens have been slowly rebuilding the former Ojutai sanctuary, renovating the large waterwheel at its center now that the ice entrapping the region has begun to melt.
- Storm Crane Monastery
— Built from the remains of the old Sage-Eye sanctuary that was destroyed in the Phyrexian invasion, the white-aligned Storm Crane Monastery is a massive skyship that can sail on lakes and rivers and transform into a flying ship when needed.[5][6] The wood and metal ship carries a temple complex with sky-blue, curved eaves ornamented with gold topped with massive cinnabar sails. A school is housed in the ship's belly. It is led by Narset.
Historical
In the original timeline, part of the population was settled in one of the four main strongholds or one of the many villages along the rivers and lakes, all located far away from the lands of the Abzan.[1][7]
- Cori Mountain Stronghold
- constructed inside an ancient flooded caldera. An immense and well-preserved dragon skeleton surrounded the stronghold like a perimeter fence.
- Cori Mountain Sanctuary
- the primary roost and intellectual retreat of Ojutai.
- Cori Mountain Sanctuary
- The Dead Reckoning - a route through a treacherous swampy region with a reputation for fatalities.
- Dirgur Stronghold
- was surrounded by a floating village with a network of wooden bridges. It is not the most secure stronghold, but it is the closest to both the Salt Road and the lands of the other clans.[8]
- Highspire Stronghold - a minor stronghold on the border. Here monks were trained to ride and control wild mantis native to the mountain peaks.
- Purugir - the clan's largest trading post, located in a canyon along the Salt Road.
- Riverwheel Stronghold - a white-walled fortress built into the side of a cliff. A huge waterfall flew through it.
- Icefall - in the current timeline, the waterfall was formerly frozen, perhaps by the magical intervention of cold-loving Ojutai dragons.
- Sage-Eye Stronghold - the prime stronghold. It was built into the side of a mountain at the edge of a bay ringed by mountains.
- Dragon's Eye Sanctuary, the former name in the current timeline. Secondary sanctuary and roost of the dragonlord Ojutai
- The Trail of Dead Emperors - a route through the mountains marked by towering white standing stones.
