Alniul, the Twice Whisperer, is a human shaman from Tarkir and the head whisperer of the Temur Frontier.
Description
Alniul is co-leader of the Temur Frontier with Eshki Dragonclaw.[1] While the Dragonclaw had been selected by the members of the Temur for being a revered warrior, the Twice Whisperer had been chosen by the spirits from among all the whisperers in the Temur. Together, they jointly make decisions that govern the entire clan, with the Dragonclaw primarily responsible for tangible matters and the Twice Whisperer governing spiritual and metaphysical affairs. They are experienced in snow magic.[2]
History
Alniul was taught in secret, like their predecessors.[2] They foretold Eshki's victory in the fight against Atarka, and assisted Narset in discovering the Stormnexus Ritual, which led to the overthrow of the dragonlords.[3]
Around 4564 AR, Surrak lived in a small village on the edge of Temur territory when the land was suddenly struck with blight.[2]> It infested living things with veins of pale blue light and weakened them until they died, spreading out from a nexus in Surrak's village. Thanks to his great strength, he managed to survive the disease. Eventually, Eshki and Alniul came to investigate the blight, finding Surrak in a pool of blue on the verge of death. By making a ritual circle and communing with the spirits of the land, the three discovered that the disease was born from the angry spirits of desperate Atarka clan members who had to debase themselves to survive. They pledged that all would be welcome at the fires of the Temur, and the blight was brought to an end. Afterward, Surrak rejoined the clan and began traveling with Eshki and Alniul, although he still held a grudge against the former.
