Kotis is a sibsig warrior from Kishla Village in Tarkir. He is the current Fangkeeper (khan) of the Sultai Brood and bound to the spirit dragon Teval.
Description
Born human, Kotis has been revived as a sibsig.[1] His sense of justice and desire to ensure the prosperity of all clan members make him an ideal contrast to the decadence and waste of Silumgar. Seeing his second life as a rare and valuable opportunity, Kotis is tenacious in the pursuit of his goals and ideals, hoping to let no time go to waste. Kotis has little patience for the politicking and bickering among the Sultai elites, preferring to approach problems with a practical lens.
Like many sibsig, Kotis bears various jeweled prostheses, including one replacing his left eye, one replacing his nose, and one replacing his left arm. One of his hands is still functional, while the other is stripped to the bone, the skeleton preserved inside an ornamental jade blade. He appears to wear two more prosthetic hands on his waist, which he can swap out with his organic hands as necessary.[2]
History
Kotis was an unassuming farmer from the village of Kishla whose lifestyle was disturbed by Silumgar's minions, who came to steal his village's crops.[3][4][1] Though he had never wanted to be a warrior or a leader, he organized his village's resistance, earning it brief independence from Silumgar's rule. He and his fellow rebels were forced into the jungle after Silumgar's forces counterattacked. Later, he fought in the New Phyrexian Invasion and was killed. His fellow rebels felt his leadership was necessary, so he was brought back to life in a necromantic ritual, becoming one of the first in the ranks of the honored dead of the Sultai.
In the rebellion that followed, Kotis was partially responsible for Sidisi's defeat. During the Stormnexus Ritual, Kotis called the spirit dragon Teval into being, shaping their essence with his own beliefs.[5] After the fall of the dragonlords and the rise of the new Sultai to power, Kotis was installed as the Fangkeeper.[1]
