Betor is the Mythic Spirit Dragon of the Abzan Houses on Tarkir. They came into being after Narset performed the Stormnexus Ritual and Felothar called them forth. When Betor was summoned, the lost and drifting spirits of the Abzan coalesced into their being. With these spirits, Betor became a manifestation of the Abzan's past, their present, and their desire for independence and reconnection to their history.[1]

Description

Dromoka had demanded the Abzan repudiate their honored dead, had branded their ancestral worship unnatural, and had made them choose between their pasts and the survival of their present. Betor, on the other hand, exists in defiance of those edicts and represents the lost spirits of the Abzan brought together into a singular form.[2]

Betor, brilliant as the desert sun, contains the collective conscience of the multitude of lost Abzan spirits displaced by the burning of the kin-trees.[2][3] Betor speaks as a collective "we," representing the amalgamated consciousnesses of Abzan ancestors and serving as a link between the dead and the living.[4] Betor also oversees the Kin-Tree wardens and ancestral summoners.[1]

The Abzan consider Betor to be part of each of their families, and many will seek them out for guidance.[1] Betor can solve problems by drawing on a vast collection of knowledge and memories, enabling them to quickly decipher intentions, solutions, and consequences to problems that face the Abzan, making them invaluable to the reconstituted clan. Betor steers the Abzan to embrace their independent aspirations while ensuring they are aligned to the collective good. More inclined to watch from the sidelines and not interfere, Betor offers both judgement and praise in small measure. However, Betor may also be self-contradicting, as the many voices that make up this dragon do not always agree.[5]
