Description
Ovalchase is a bustling zone in Ghirapur defined by the high-speed racetrack at its center. The Ovalchase racetrack is one of the city's most famous sporting venues and draws daring pilots, enthusiastic crowds, and a lively mix of inventors and gamblers from all across Avishkar. The area is known for its unending symphony of noise: the hum of aerodrones hovering overhead, the screeching of lorry wheels on tight turns, the buzzing wings of thopters darting between skybridges, and the roar of spectators filling the stands. This constant backdrop of sound creates an air of excitement that defines life in Ovalchase.[1]
The racetrack itself is officially maintained by the Consulate, who regard it as a piece of civic infrastructure and a showcase for the spirit of invention that powers Kaladesh. However, the track is equally beloved by renegade inventors and pilots eager to push the limits of their custom-built vehicles and automatons. For many, racing at Ovalchase is the ultimate test of ingenuity and nerve, and victory here can earn a pilot fame and influence throughout Ghirapur's bustling streets.[1]
Beyond the official races, Ovalchase has become notorious for its thriving undercurrent of gambling and illicit deals. Criminal elements use the constant flow of racers and crowds to run extensive betting operations, adding yet another layer of intrigue to an already charged atmosphere. Despite this, the stands at Ovalchase are unofficially treated as neutral ground by both Consulate enforcers and the renegades who often clash with them elsewhere in the city. The thrill of the race and the celebratory mood of the crowds tend to transcend the political tensions that otherwise define life on Kaladesh.[1]
A short distance from the main track stands the Hall of Mechanists, a grand building that honors the legends of Ovalchase's racing culture. Here, wheels, struts, hood ornaments, and other trophies taken from historic races are displayed as symbols of triumph and technical mastery. Dazzling murals of famous pilots and ingenious vehicle mechanists cover the ceiling, capturing the daring spirit of generations of racers. At the heart of the hall stands a towering statue of an angel, a tribute to a legendary event when the miraculous appearance of a radiant sun angel was said to have decided the outcome of a pivotal race.[1]
Today, Ovalchase remains a symbol of speed, invention, and the restless energy of Ghirapur's people — a place where the roar of engines drowns out the city's conflicts, if only for a few laps around the track.
