Part of Mephidross and Quicksilver Sea

The Darkslick is a boundary region on the plane of New Phyrexia, where the quicksilver rivulets of the Surgical Bay seep into the toxic expanse of the Dross Pits.

Description

The Darkslick is a murky transition zone where tainted waters churn and mix. Here, black necrogenous sludge from the Mephidross mingles with the metallic currents of the Quicksilver Sea, producing tides of oily shimmer and decay.[1] Once a shifting shore of unstable alchemical reactions, the area is now dominated by grotesque syntheses of blue and black Phyrexian design: cruel fusions of intellect and infection.

The terrain is composed of scabbed-over slicks, rippling mercury surfaces veined with black ichor, and bone-filtered channels. It was spanned by the Mistvault Bridge, and is known for hosting laboratories, breeding vats, and dissection halls, many submerged beneath the tarnished waters. The area is also inhabited by twisted constructs and corrupted vedalken or nim researchers who exemplify the adage: “where curiosity meets cruelty, hideous innovations arise.”[2]

History

Before the Mending and the completion of Phyrexia, the Darkslick was the natural edge where the Mephidross leeched into the Quicksilver Sea. It was already a place of mutation and experimentation, where necrogen’s taint mingled with the sentient sea and its chrome-forged islands.[1] Phyrexian influence had long seeped into this zone, twisting both natural and artificial life. Early Phyrexian agents, especially nim and vedalken, found the Darkslick ideal for experiments unbound by ethical limits.

Following the complete transformation of Mirrodin into New Phyrexia, the region was absorbed into the inner structure of the plane and became a transition between the fifth sphere’s Surgical Bay and the sixth sphere’s Dross Pits. Its laboratories now serve the Progress Engine, though many still bear the scars of Mephidross’s corruption.
