Reika Eberhardt was a former Cathar from Kessig, on the plane of Innistrad.

History

Reika was a young woman of average height and build, with brown eyes, brown hair, and pinched features. Initially described as a frightened little girl, she grew into a person capable of greatness, as Elder Adila Rimheit noted. Her time at Elgaud Grounds saw her honored for her service to Avacyn. Still, her experiences were marred by a sense of loss and isolation, especially after moving to Thraben Cathedral, where she felt unguided and distant from the light of Avacyn. She discovered Father Jofridus participating in a Skirsdag ritual beneath the cathedral.

Reika's past was turbulent and filled with increasing misdeeds and misunderstandings. She started stealing small items, first a trinket, then coins, driven by frustration and resentment towards her peers. She had a propensity for petty theft, stealing from a merchant and Cathar Trinar before she was caught and dismissed from the Church later that year. Gambling led her to amass debt to the Order of the Poniard, who issued a 1000 gold sovereign bounty for her capture. To pay off the debt, she stole the Bloodletter from the secret vault of Thraben Cathedral to sell to Thatu Reiniger but was captured by the order and forced to fight in the pits. After defeating pit champion Wilhelm Brandt, she was rescued by Raben Amsel, who had trained with her at Elgaud.

Her friend Raben, though committed to his duties, felt guilt over their estranged relationship. They attempted to uncover the truth behind the corruption within the church, and when they returned to Thraben, she outed Jofridus to Amsel before the cultist killed her with the Bloodletter on 101st of Hunter's Moon, 719.

Raben, heartbroken and marked as a heretic, Raben sought refuge and aimed to bring justice for Reika's death. Elder Rimheit, who saw Reika as a daughter, tasked Raben with unveiling the church's corruption and capturing Jofridus, hoping to avenge Reika and restore some semblance of justice. Jofridus defiled Reika's corpse by possessing it with a demon, but the demon was defeated and she was lain to final rest by Amsel.
