Malach was a Vulshok warrior and Warchief of the Anvil tribe on Mirrodin. He was also a friend of Koth.
History
Malach embarked on a scouting mission into ogre territory and disappeared. Malach was corrupted by the Glistening Oil, and betrayed his people, killing the rebel Darven.[1] Malach's clanmate Farris of the Anvil looked for him but found neither his weapon nor his body.
Koth of the Hammer, Malach's friend, later found Malach's weapon, lying abandoned deep in Phyrexian territory.[2]
Sometime later, Malach encountered Farris of the Anvil after a battle, where Farris found himself waking up to being dragged along the floor by Malach. At this point, Malach's jaw and lips had been replaced by a ring of oily spikes around his gaping tongue, signifying his horrific transformation into a Phyrexian. His ribcage was exposed and open like iron gates, showing unnatural organs and mechanical parts, highlighting the grotesque fusion of flesh and machine. The most haunting aspect of his appearance was his human eyes, left untouched, which blinked and pleaded, showing remnants of his former self trapped within the monstrous body.
Farris initially fled from Malach, who pursued him to the site of the battle where Farris had been knocked unconscious. Farris dragged a wounded leg behind him and realized he did not have it in him to keep running, so instead he turned around and attacked his former warchief ferociously, smashing his face with his head crest and tearing his chest open. As the Phyrexianized Malach died, his eyes seemed to thank Farris for ending his Phyrexian existence.[3]
