Zar Ojanen is a leonin warrior from Efrava, a once-lush region in Dominaria. She is noted for her strong, muscular physique and is the sister of Pallar Ojanen as well as the aunt of Lark Ojanen.

Description

Once a thriving green oasis surrounded by the Jamuraan desert, Efrava was lost to an unnamed catastrophe long ago. Although the homeland itself has vanished, the leonin people who called it home have not disappeared. Many have dispersed across Dominaria, but Zar Ojanen, descended from the formidable mercenary Jedit Ojanen, leads a traveling caravan of Efravan throughout Jamuraa. Devoted to the safety and well-being of her people, Zar is a skilled fighter willing to confront any threat to her caravan with fierce determination.[1]

History

The Efravan community, composed of leonin and other mixed humanoid refugees, fled their home to escape the advancing Phyrexian forces. Zar, along with her pregnant sister Pallar and other members of their people, sought shelter from ongoing wars and persecution.[2]

Niambi, a healer known for her gift of interpreting dreams, became a compassionate ally to the refugees, offering medical aid despite the risk of alienation by her people. Her husband, Denik, supported their efforts by providing safe passage and necessary supplies. Together, they faced prejudice and hostility from the local population and city officials, especially the magistrate, Teshunda, and his council.[2]

As the Phyrexian menace drew near, Niambi appealed to Magistrate Teshunda to reconsider his opposition to the refugees. Drawing on her healing talents and prophetic visions, she likened the situation to a dream where birds tend to a sick tree, symbolizing the Efravan’s potential to bring renewal and healing to the city.[2]

During a visit to the secret refuge where the Efravan had taken shelter—in an abandoned mine—Pallar had just given birth to her daughter, Lark. Witnessing the newborn and the determination of Zar and her people, Teshunda was moved to grant asylum to the Efravan in the city of Femeref. This decision acknowledged the importance of unity in the face of the looming Phyrexian threat, even as opposition from fearful city council members persisted. The story ends on a hopeful note, as the Efravan begin the difficult process of integration.[2]
