National Championships
Years held: 1998 to 2011
2017 and 2018
Host cities: Warsaw
Repeat titles: Radek Kaczmarczyk
Paweł Karaszewski
Przemysław Oberbek

National Championship tournaments were held annually in Poland from 1998 through to 2011, then again in 2017 and 2018.[1][2] The winner of these events was named Polish Champion and headed the national team at that years' World Championship.

Between 2012 and 2016, the title Polish Champion was instead given to the Polish player with the highest amount of Pro Points in a particular Pro Tour season.

History

A National Championship tournament had originally been planned to be held in Warsaw on June 14-15, 1997.[3] However, this event didn't end up going ahead. Instead, a representive from Wizards of the Coast's Belgian office attended the Polish Tempest prerelease and Przemysław "Ober" Oberbek was named inugural Polish National Champion.[4][5] Ober had earnt this title as he had the highest Standard format DCI ranking in Poland. Similarly, Grzegorz Świetlik was named Classic Champion based on his Type I ranking.

National Championships (1998 to 2011)

National team members for the World Championships, where known, are marked in bold.

  • Between 1998 and 2000, and in 2007, teams had 4 players.[6]
  • Between 2001 and 2006, and 2008 to 2011, teams consisted of three players. The two losing semi-finalists would play off for 3rd place. 4th place still received an invitation as an Alternate. (Italicised)

Invitations could be formally declined and would be offered in turn to the next player in the standings.

Note: An asterisk (*) after a player's name indicates their exact placing is unknown.
