Grzegorz Świetlik is a Polish former professional player who is regarded as being the person who introduced Magic: the Gathering into Poland.[1] He had picked up the game while studying in the United States, then went into a job which involved regular business trips, allowing him to purchase "lots of cards" at a time that they weren't widely available in Poland. Wizards of the Coast also contracted him to provide the first official translation of the rules into the Polish language.
In 1997, Grzegorz was named Polish Classic (Type I) Champion; he had the highest DCI ranking in the country in that format.[2] He was runner-up in the 1998 Polish National Championships, the first to be held, but he had a much bigger impact on the competitive game as an organiser rather than a player. Together with Level 4 Judge Jakub Wysoczański, he would run most of the early sanctioned events in Poland.
