National Championship tournaments were held annually in Denmark from 1995 through to 2011, then again in 2017 and 2018.[1][2] The winner of these events was named Danish Champion and headed the national team at that years' World Championship.
Between 2012 and 2016 the title Danish Champion was instead given to the Dane with the highest amount of Pro Points in a particular Pro Tour season.
History
90s Nationals
Early Danish Nationals, between 1996 and 1998, were structured in a way unlike those of most other countries. There were, in effect, two tournaments held over two days. First was Sealed Deck, and second was Standard. The winner of each day earned a place in the Top 8, which was played in the Standard format. The other six places went to the players with the best combined records over both days. From 1999 Denmark moved to the standardised tournament system of alternating Standard and Draft rounds.[3]
2007 Grand Final
The 2007 grand final was decided at the beginning of the 5th and deciding game. Anton Lunau presented Tim Rasmussen a 59 card deck; he'd accidentally left a copy of Cry of Contrition out while shuffling. This resulted in an automatic game loss for him, and the National title for Tim Rasmussen.[4]
National Championships (1995 to 2011)
National team members for the World Championships, where known, are in marked in bold.
- Between 1997 and 2000, and in 2007, teams had 4 players.[5]
- Between 2001 and 2006, and 2008 to 2011 teams, consisted of three players. The two losing semi-finalists would play off for 3rd place. 4th place still received an invitation as an Alternate. (Italicised)
Invitations could be formally declined and would be offered in turn to the next player in the standings.
Note: An asterisk (*) after a player's name indicates their exact placing is unknown.
