The Masters Series was a special tournament program that ran from 2000–2003 in conjunction with several Pro Tour events. The events were designed to bring together the best Magic players together into a single tournament with a large cash prize. Some events of the Masters Series were broadcast on ESPN.

Format

The Masters Series were single-elimination tournaments for thirty-two players. Thirty of the players were invited based on prior standing. Of those, sixteen were seeded into the bracket, and the rest were paired against the seeded players randomly. The last two players were invited by winning a Gateway Tournament held just before the main event.

Generally, rounds of Masters play were held in the evenings, so that players could also participate in the adjoining Pro Tour event.
