Lord Pontifex was the Vedalken's most respected researcher on the plane of Mirrodin.[1]
Pontifex was the owner of Donal, the father of Bruenna. Pontifex wanted to research how Donal would change after going into the Pool of Knowledge but the council wanted Donal killed. He agreed to this in order to gain favor with the Synod. When Bruenna and Glissa ran into Pontifex within Lumengrid, he took them into his house as guests/prisoners in order to hand them over for a council seat. He was eventually killed by Marek.
