The Lacunae were gigantic tunnels that went to the hollow core of the plane of Mirrodin.[1] The gravitational magic of the lacunae allows travellers to walk along their edges and safely drop onto the layers they exit into.[2][3]
History
It was through each tunnel that the five suns were ejected from the plane's core; extra mana of a particular color was sent off into the atmosphere. The locations of the five lacunae and their corresponding suns are:
- White: The Cave of Light and Bringer[4]
- Blue: The Pool of Knowledge and the Eye of Doom[4]
- Black: Ish Sah and Ingle[4]
- Red: Kuldotha and Sky Tyrant[4]
- Green: The Radix and Lyese[4]
After the compleation of the plane, the lacunae themselves only exist between the Mirrex (the former surface of Mirrodin) and the Furnace Layer, not reaching the new Monumental Facade layer or other layers below.[5]
Trivia
- The Mirran faction watermark on Scars of Mirrodin block cards is a stylized representation of the five lacunae.
