Time of the Thran Time of Legends Brothers' War

The Time of Legends of Dominaria was an ancient historical era, remembered as a vast span of mythohistory stretching from the fall of the Thran Empire around −5000 AR to the Start of Argivian Reckoning in 0 AR.[1] Much of the era survives only in fragmentary accounts, epic retellings, and cultural memory, standing in sharp contrast to the painstakingly examined Brothers' War that followed. Nevertheless, it is recognized as a formative age in which many of the great figures, weapons, and powers that shaped Dominaria's destiny first arose.

Description

The Time of Legends encompasses a wide range of conflicts, discoveries, and transformative events that reshaped the cultural and political landscape of Dominaria. However, most of the documented conflict occurred on the small continent of Corondor. Among the most significant was Sivitri's War on Corondor, a continent-wide conflict that saw mortals caught in the clashes of power-hungry Planeswalkers. It was also the period in which the famed sword known as the Blackblade was forged, a weapon that would go on to play a pivotal role in Dominaria's and even Ravnica's history. Also on Corondor was the Enslavement of Trine and the later Absolution of Trine, as well as the long and bitter Blackblade–Dihada War,[3] which left a lasting mark on the legend of Dakkon Blackblade himself, and ensured the forging of House Carthalion.

The Date of Tribute and the subsequent Dragon War represented yet another great conflict on Corondor. Still, in the later part of the age, the Battle at Mors Ridge on Aerona witnessed the first downfalls of two of the surviving Elder Dragons - Vaevictis Asmadi and Palladia-Mors.[4] At the same time, human civilizations were beginning to emerge in new forms. This era witnessed the founding of great nations such as Zhalfir[1] and Argive,[5], both of which would play major roles in the centuries to come.

Beyond Dominaria, the Time of Legends also coincided with formative events on other planes of the Multiverse. On Innistrad, Shilgengar's Ritual initiated the bloodline of vampires that would shape that plane's dark future. One of them, the Planeswalker Sorin Markov, traveled to Zendikar and took part in the Imprisonment of the Eldrazi, a pivotal moment in cosmic history as three of the Eldrazi Titans were bound within the plane, sealing them away for six millennia, thoguh not removing their presence fully as a recurring threat to the Multiverse as a whole.

Note

  1. Both The Art of Magic: The Gathering - Dominaria and Magic: The Gathering - The Visual Guide list the Time of Legends as lasting from -5000 to 0 AR, ending with the Start of Argivian Reckoning.[1][2] The Brothers' War period is said to have started at the same time, at year 0. However, Argivian Reckoning starts with the birth year of Urza and Mishra, and the actual Brothers' War did not break out until 28 years later, in 28 AR.
