Sami is a human artificer from the Sothera System in the Edge. They are the best friend of Tannuk, and the captain and engineer of the Seriema.
Description
Sami is a young, plucky, light-skinned human with white hair and dark eyes.[1][2] They usually wear makeup and a red jumpsuit and have a pet cat named Mirri.[3][4] Sami is a wildcat, an unaffiliated freelancer with their own ship who takes jobs from anyone paying — whether with mallowmass or currency. They serve as the captain and pilot in command of their own ship, the Seriema. Their username in digital space is SERIEMA_SAMI.[2]
History
Sami came to the Sothera system in the kitchen of a ship called the Wurm Speaker, which crashed in the Wurmwall. They would meet the Kav Tannuk when he helped them escape the crash, and the two would become crewmates on a wildcat scavenging team. Sami later bought a ship of their own, called the Seriema. In Beam Year 2,895 (around 4560 AR), Sami's cat Mirri weftwalked off the ship, and Sami resolved to search for her.[4] However, this search would cause them to lose most of their crewmates, with only Tannuk staying on.
Hunt for the Endstone
Around 4564 AR, Sami and Tannuk were contracted by Tezzeret to travel to the mining colony of Sigma's Reach to retrieve the Endstone.[4] They were also still on the lookout for Mirri. Upon arrival, they found the colony mysteriously vacant, with scorched imprints resembling human outlines the only sign of life there. In a shed, they found a mysterious, dark, unpolished, egg-shaped rock, which referred to Sami as a "choosing one" and caused them to have visions of their corpse.[2] Tannuk was able to safely bring them and the rock back to the Seriema.
While traveling to Kavaron for a stasis cask to hold the stone, they witnessed Alpharael's Hopelight warmaker crashing into the debris field. They managed to save the Monoist, and traveled to the nearby Kav colony of Taro-duend to seek medical help for a Kav patrol that the ship's thrusters had irradiated on its way into the atmosphere.[3] However, Alpharael had been followed by the Sunstar Free Company, who knew about the causality-influencing powers of the rock the duo had found - the Endstone - and suspected him to be one of its chosen. One of the Summist soldiers, Haliya, snuck onto the Seriema and tried to take the stone from Alpharael, but he fought her off, allowing Sami and Tannuk to access the ship's controls and flee Kavaron. As they left, the Summists massacred the innocent civilians in Taro-duend to purge the influence of the Endstone, leading Haliya to decide that it could not fall into their hands.[5]
The Seriema docked with Tezzeret's ship, where he told the crew that he wanted to see what it would influence them to do. Random chance revealed to them that it wanted to go to Infinite Guideline Station, so they took it there. The Monoists and Summists converged on the station to take the stone, as well as some Eldrazi, but they managed to use the station to warp them out into the Wurmwall. Sami also recovered Mirri, who was inexplicably hiding in a stasis cask on Infinite Guideline.[6]
As the crew drifted in the Wurmwall, recuperating from the damage they sustained in the battle at the station, a hole in space opened in the Seriema's galley and a Vaar android stepped out to reclaim the Endstone, fulfilling its desire. Despite this, Sami counted the mission as a success, as they had given Tezzeret what he wanted and finally had Mirri back.[6]
