Part of Sothera system

Sigma is a dwarf planet in the Sothera system in the Edge. Its only settlement is the abandoned mining colony Sigma's Reach.

Description

Sigma is a dwarf planet orbiting the Sothera supervoid.[1] Its atmosphere is too thin to breathe in.[2] An arid planet, it is prone to soft rains and dry dust storms, but cannot sustain thunderstorms. Sigma rotates westward, causing Sothera to rise on its western horizon and set on its eastern. Its surface is covered in fine orange clay.

Sigma's Reach, the minor planet's only settlement, is abandoned.[1] It was built to mine moxite from the clay on the continental shelf of a long-dry seabed called Tethys.[2] The colony was constructed in Savanna layout: cells of four habitats and four civic buildings around a central square. It originally had a population of 13,879 workers, plus friends and family, totaling about 20,000 inhabitants. It has an active fission plant and a local atmosphere.

History

Sigma's Reach was built between about 4554 and 4561 AR and colonized by workers.[1] By 4564, the miners discovered the Endstone, and it was placed in the colony's quality assurance cyst.[2] Around 4564 AR, a Sunstar Free Company palestar arrived on the planet and dispatched four Hopelight warmakers to eradicate the inhabitants. However, the Endstone changed history so that no one ever arrived to start work due to Sothera's impending nova, and the palestar passed the planet by unharmed.

Geography

  • The tethys, a dry seabed.[1]
    • Sigma's Reach, an abandoned mining colony.[1]
