The Mission for the Endstone was an expedition in the Sothera system during which the scavengers Sami and Tannuk were contracted by Tezzeret to retrieve the Endstone from the abandoned mining colony of Sigma's Reach. The mission drew in multiple factions, including the Monoists, the Sunstar Free Company, and even the Eldrazi, as the causality-altering artifact manipulated events to ensure its recovery.
Description
Around c. 4564 AR, Tezzeret, stranded in the Edge after the Invasion of the Multiverse, learned of the uninhabited colony of Sigma's Reach. After realizing that whatever was on (or in) the world was preventing him from mounting his expedition, he hired Sami and Tannuk to investigate.[1]
The pair found the colony deserted, with only scorched human-shaped imprints as signs of life. In a shed, they discovered a dark, unpolished, egg-shaped rock—the Endstone—which addressed Sami as a "choosing one" and caused visions of their corpse.[2] They retrieved the object and returned to their ship, the Seriema.
On the way to Kavaron to obtain a stasis cask for the stone, they encountered the Monoist Alpharael, rescuing him after his Hopelight warmaker crashed in the debris field. Alpharael was being pursued by the Sunstar Free Company, whose commander Vondam believed he was destined to possess the Endstone and that its power threatened the resurrection of Sothera.[3] Sunstar squire Haliya infiltrated the Seriema to take the stone, but failed, and Sami and Tannuk escaped. The Summists massacred the civilians of Taro-duend in their attempt to purge the Endstone’s influence, leading Haliya to doubt her cause.[4]
The Seriema docked with Tezzeret’s ship, where he proposed letting the stone decide their next destination. Chance indicated Infinite Guideline Station, and the crew traveled there. The station became the site of a battle between the Monoists, the Summists, and several Eldrazi, but Sami’s group used the station to warp their enemies into the Wurmwall. There, Sami also recovered their missing cat Mirri from a stasis cask aboard the station.[5]
While drifting in the Wurmwall, a spatial rift opened aboard the Seriema, and a Vaar android stepped through to reclaim the Endstone, fulfilling the object’s own goal.
