The Filigree Texts[1][2], also known as the Etherium Texts[3], are a sacred collection of vedalken writings housed in the Sanctum Arcanum on Esper. Comprising twenty-three volumes—one for each of Esper’s named winds—they are written in a cryptic poetic form and encoded in etherium filigree. The texts are open to public study and are revered as the most complete record of vedalken knowledge and spiritual philosophy. They represent the intersection of logic, aesthetics, and devotion in vedalken culture.
Description
The Filigree Texts are central to vedalken scholarship and spiritual life. Though the vedalken pursue enlightenment through logic and reason, their study of the Texts is imbued with deep reverence. Each tome is a carefully composed long-form poem, containing what the vedalken deem the entirety of Esper’s significant knowledge—history, philosophy, natural forces, and metaphysical insight.
There are twenty-three such volumes, corresponding to the shard’s named winds. Originally written in ink, the tomes were transcribed into etherium decades ago after vedalken augurs declared them sacred. Now, each grimoire is composed of intricately worked etherium sheets, with words revealed in the negative space between delicate filigree patterns.[4]
Unlike the Codex Etherium — a secret text kept in the Vault of the Seekers of Carmot — the Filigree Texts are publicly accessible. Housed in the Sanctum Arcanum, they draw vedalken sages, human scholars, and aven philosophers from across Esper, all eager to interpret the profound logic embedded in their symbolic verses.[2]
The Texts are considered to contain all meaningful truths of Esper. Sharuum, the Hegemon of Esper, once quoted the Texts to explain the Conflux, stating that "There are patterns on the breath of stars," suggesting that even seemingly random events adhere to an underlying cosmic order.[3]
