Banath'thur is a criminal demon from Alara. He has been known as the Demon of Qasal, the Defiler of Souls, and Hell's Lash. He has been wanted for mass destruction and soul corruption throughout Jund, Naya, and Bant. In addition to conspiracy to commit genocide, entering a contract with a minor, forgery, torture, and two counts of destruction of a holy being.

History

Banath'thur was a demon imprisoned by a group of Vithian humans of Grixis. He was trapped via complex warding enchantments in a vault deep under their base of operations in the region south of Unx. When the Conflux occurred, it forced the surrounding region to coincide with part of Naya and their base broke through a rocky hillside, both damaging the building and the binding spells keeping the demon contained.

After regaining his freedom, Banath'thur turned the Vithians and a nearby Nacatl pride into his minions, both tempting them with lies and lashing the souls of the noncompliant with his demonspine whip. Those who survived his onslaught helped lead him to some angels of Bant. He is known to have slain two of Bant's angels to take their souls and continues to hunt for more. He is known to be difficult to approach, as his deadly whip destroys all who are not already overrun by his soul-crippled human and leonin underlings.

At some point, he encountered the human wizard Revin Skoros and tempted him with promises of exotic new bonds to sources of mana he hadn't been able to discover on his own. This caused Skoros to become one of the Damned, an undead husk who surrendered his soul.[1]
