Drufalden was the last of the Rigida, an ice queen ruling over a cold realm in the Borderlands in 3050 AR.[1][2]

Description

Drufalden had a cunning and harsh personality, serving herself at the expense of others. She kept many slaves and was not above murdering her way to dominion, even performing matricide and sororicide to claim power. She could also be alluring when she wanted to. She had pale, almost colorless eyes and long silver nails. Her throne room was blazingly bright with glittering ice, surrounded by a maze of frozen corridors. When she met the powerful sand-wraith Porros, she was enticed by his power and mystery, rather than scared as most others were.

History

Little is known of Drufalden's origins, but after having killed her own two sisters and imprisoned her mother until her death, she was the last of the Rigida that had once ruled most of Almaaz.[2] Having forged a cold realm for herself, she suffered much loss of power after the Flooding of Terisiare, but after obtaining a water sapphire, a magical gemstone, she was able to draw enough strength to freeze a large section of land, lowering the sea levels enough to create the Silver Sea, and almost stopping the flow of the Sarrazan River. The River Kingdom suffered from this effect, as the fish they depended on became scarce, forcing them to roam further and further to find food.[1]

Gathering a large group of followers, assassins and guards around her, Drufalden also held many Neffian slaves. Her influence stretched even to Sumifa, where some of her assassins were hired out to work for the likes of Riolla Hifrata. She had a fortress of pure ice set upon the tallest of mountains, a frozen volcano at the edge of the Borderlands. However, at some point, she lost her water sapphire while swimming in a stream, and it ended up in the River Kingdom. In 3050 AR, the songmage Ogwater Rifkin came to reclaim his magical gemstone from Drufalden. Receiving the stone from the king of the selkies, Ogwater used the gemstone to cast a great song spell to melt the ice of the Rigida's queendom. This caused a great flood, which destroyed Rotapan's palace and ended his life in the jaws of Chelydrus. It also caused a surge of water to pour through the Sarrazan River to the selkies' great joy. Eventually, the Silver Sea would become completely submerged and rejoin the ocean. What befell Drufalden after this event is unknown, but her icy grip on Almaaz had been well and truly lost.[1]
