The Silver Sea was a long, narrow inland sea on the island of Almaaz, part of the Terisian Isles of Dominaria. It was eventually submerged beneath the Lat-Nam Straits.

History

The Silver Sea came into being during the Thaw, when the ice sorceress Drufalen, unhappy with the loss of the Ice Age glaciers, cast a spell that would lock the water of the Borderlands into an icy realm. As Drufalden's cold kingdom grew, the waters of the Sarrazan River shrank. At the same time, the sea levels around Drufalden's kingdom fell, connecting the Borderlands with the larger island of Almaaz while also creating the Silver Sea in the middle. [1]

Separating the Borderlands from the neighboring orc kingdom of Wyrvil, the Silver Sea was saline, and contained ocean animals that were trapped in the sea when it was cut off from the wider ocean. The half-orc overking Rotapan made his domain on the border of the Silver Sea, worshipping an elusive sea drake named Chelydrus which inhabited the waters of the sea.[1]

In 3050 AR, the songmage Ogwater Rifkin traveled to Drufalden's cold kingdom, and released the hold of the ice on her realm through song magic, causing a massive melting of the glacier. The Sarrazan River rose fully once more, providing steady water flow into the Silver Sea, flooding it far beyond its former levels.[1]

Eventually, the meltwater of the cold kingdom would connect the Silver Sea to the ocean and submerge it beneath the Lat-Nam Straits, once more making the Borderlands into an island separate from the larger island of Almaaz. The Silver Sea thus joined the greater ocean and was lost.
