Riolla Hifrata was a woman with the title of the Mercanto Schreefa, living in Almaaz in 3050 AR.[1]

Description

Riolla had plump, razor-nailed hands and an unpleasant, rasping voice. She wore heavy, pale face paint, and her eyebrows arched up her forehead in thin, dark lines, a bright pink smile drawn permanently on full lips. Her eyes were vivid blue, and her hair was a bright, brassy red sweep of curls that was heavily pinned up, rising to an impossible height and then cascading halfway down her back and curling around her throat.[1]

History

Riolla Hifrata was a crime boss of the merchant caste in Sumifa. When the city's king, Thedeso, died, and his son Maceo inherited the throne, Riolla promised him a wealth of money if he betrothed her. Having spent his money on expensive remedies, Maceo agreed, casting off his former betrothed, Claria. Secretly working for the sand wraith Porros, Riolla then learned that the archaeologist Cheyne and the songmage Ogwater Rifkin, a former lover of Riolla's, had joined Claria in seeking out the crystals of Sarraza. Riolla greedily followed them, thinking the vault had a large treasure. [1]

Instead, she found that Ogwater released the Beast of the Hours from its prison. After killing the orc Womba, the beast was nearly upon Riolla and Ogwater, and Riolla gave the songmage her black pearl, the last stone he needed to complete the spell to banish the monster from the realm. Disgusted at this outcome, Riolla was forced to return to Sumifa empty-handed. [1]
