Arah was a Yotian knight during the Brothers' War and a leading member of the Church of Tal in the the Dark Age of Dominaria.
Description
Arah was an old soldier, a veteran of many battles. He was one of Raddic's black knights, a leader of the Talites. Arah was characterized by a brass cap and experienced significant hardships during and after the war. He was hardened and weathered, typical of a long-time warrior.[1]
History
Arah's history was intertwined with the tumultuous events of the past. He fought in the Tomakul Campaign of 955 PF (43 AR), where he first met Raddic. They were separated but reconnected after the catastrophic events that reshaped their world. Post-war, Arah, like many survivors, found himself displaced and struggling. He eventually became part of the Talites, a group with a mission to purge the world of "machine filth." His experiences during the war and after, particularly his association with the Talites and their anti-machine crusade, painted him as a seasoned and committed soldier, deeply affected by the conflicts that ravaged the land. He was part of the First Talite Crusade.[1]
By 69 AR, he was part of a vast procession of Talites that journeyed to the walls of Penregon. Although the city's leader Kayla bin-Kroog offered the Talites shelter, tension escalated when some of them attacked a city automaton, resulting in casualties and injuries. Confronted by Kayla, the Talites remained defiant, denouncing the city and threatening violence if they did not abandon their machines. In a final standoff, they issued an ultimatum: cast out the machines or face destruction.[1]
The Siege of Penregon ended in a day, with the conflict splintering into two key battles. First, Penregon's defenders successfully repelled the Talite crusaders' assault on the city walls. Despite the Talites breaching the wall, they failed to exploit their advantage, allowing Penregon's forces to counterattack. Penregon's use of armed, reinforced, and powered-up civils forced the survivors to retreat. Outnumbered and outmaneuvered, the remaining Talite forces, including their cavalry, could only watch as Penregon's defenders secured prisoners and tended to the dead and wounded.[2]
Simultaneously, a second battle unfolded within the city. Raddic's followers, who had secretly infiltrated Penregon, incited chaos by attacking the city's infrastructure and citizens. As the Talite insurgents launched their surprise assault, Penregon's forces, including the city guard and armed civils, mobilized quickly. Despite initial chaos, the defenders gained control, quelling the insurgents through fierce street-to-street fighting.[2]
Despite their defeat at Penregon, the Talites formed a Second Talite Crusade in the wake of the siege. They marched on, still gathering strength and followers. They successfully raided Urza's Tower, leaving it stripped and abandoned, and then marched on to Mishra's Forge. The crusaders under Raddic's command engaged in a fierce battle against numerous "demons" at the forge. Despite their efforts, many of the faithful, including Raddic, were killed in the brutal conflict. His death was later confirmed by the new, unnamed gaunt leader of the Talites, who encountered Kayla while purchasing spirits in Penregon. The gaunt leader described Raddic's death as part of the price paid in their campaign to eradicate the demonic presence at Mishra's Forge.[2]
It is unknown what ultimately happened to Arah, but as he was not present among the leadership during the Talites' second visit to Penregon, it can be assumed he, like Raddic, was killed in battle during the Tower and Forge campaign.
