The Siege of Penregon was the first significant event of the Dark Age.

History

The Church of Tal massed outside Penregon's gates with a vast army of militia and a few knights, led by Raddic and Arah. The Church, firm in its belief that all machines were demons and had to be destroyed, had also infiltrated the city with agents who would cause chaos and disruption in parallel to the attack from the forces arrayed outside the city walls.

The Lady of Penregon, Kayla bin-Kroog, bid her chief artificer Tawnos arm his mechanized civils, the source of the church's ire. The civils were originally built for warfare and only repurposed for non-violent tasks like maintenance and manual labor. This meant that they were surprisingly effective guardians of the city, and even vastly outnumbered as it was, Penregon stood its ground. The civils stamped down on the insurgents inside the city walls, as well as rebuking the attack from without.

Chased from the city, the rest of the Talite army abandoned the siege and moved on to attack Urza's Tower. Despite its successful resistance to the siege, the Fall of Penregon came 10 years later, not by sword or blow, but by the unstoppable glaciers from the north.
