Mia is a farmer and shepherd from Nephalia on Innistrad, and the daughter of the monster slayer Olgard. She lives in a village near Lake Zhava, home of the Gitrog monster.
History
When the Gitrog monster first made its presence known to the villagers, Mia refused to believe its existence, even as more and more of the villagers around her, including her friend Wilbur, with whom she had a romantic interest. Mia's father, the monster slayer Olgard had been away for years, living among the Skiltfolk, and Mia was on her own, a not-quite een-year girl.
As Mia's sheep started disappearing one by one, and the villagers became more and more paranoid and obsessed, Mia eventually decided to find out the truth for herself. As the last sheep were taken away, she trailed the tracks left behind and followed them to Lake Zhava, where she discovered that the villagers had been stealing her sheep to give as sacrifice to the Gitrog monster. Mia snuck aboard their skiff as it sailed out onto the lake, and when she loudly confronted them about their lies, the Gitrog attacked. One by one, it snapped the villagers into its mouth with its enormous tongue, until Mia and Wilbur were the only ones remaining. The two of them decided the only thing they could attempt was to swim away while the Gitrog was preoccupied with the last struggling villagers, so they leaped into the water and swam.
They somehow made it to the lake of the shore, but collapsed there, exhausted, only to find that the Gitrog had followed them. When Mia gazed into the monster's hypnotic eyes, she understood the truth - that the monster was her master, and she was made to serve it with sacrifice. Her first sacrifice to the Gitrog was Wilbur. When spring arrived, a messenger came with a letter from her father, and Mia smiled beautifully at him and offered to take him out on the lake. Thinking she was romantically interested in him, the messenger accepted, and Mia smiled beautifully at her next sacrifice.
