Teferi's Temporal Projection was a time travel mission in 4562 AR conducted at Urza's Tower on Dominaria by Teferi Akosa, Saheeli Rai, Kaya, and their allies. Its objective was to determine the exact method by which Urza detonated the Golgothian Sylex in 64 AR, knowledge sought to aid in the fight against the Phyrexians during the Second Phyrexian Invasion of Dominaria.
Description
The Temporal Anchor, designed by Saheeli from Urza's blueprints, was installed at Urza's Tower to project Teferi's consciousness into the past. Prototype tests were disrupted by the ghost of Sharaman, who in life had been general of Urza's armies. Sharaman opposed the revival of Urza's agenda and any new war against Phyrexia.[2] Kaya laid Sharaman to rest, allowing Saheeli to repair the damage he had caused to the power stabilization subsystem.
Although intended as an observer, Teferi found himself able to physically interact with people and objects in the past without them affecting him in return.[3] The team tested the system for a month, verifying Teferi's presence in earlier eras before attempting to reach the precise moment of the Sylex detonation.
Several attempts missed the target: first during The Dark Age, then at the Fall of Kroog, and again during the Tomakul Campaign.[3][6] On the fourth attempt, Teferi arrived at the exact moment Urza set off the Sylex Blast.[4] Speaking with Urza moments before and during his ascension, Teferi learned that the Sylex had no hidden mechanism or spell — its detonation was triggered by a person.
Immediately after this discovery, the powerstone powering the Anchor imploded, overloading the device. Teferi's consciousness was lost in the timestream, eventually foundering on a beach on the pocket-plane of Zhalfir. Saheeli and Wrenn remained at Urza's Tower with Jodah to repair the Anchor and recover Teferi, while Kaya departed to join the New Coalition with the information she had gained.[5]
