Markus was a human from Kenlefia in Jamuraa, who was executed in Vacar Slab.

History

The people of Kenlefia only mete justice on Vacar Slab, a place in the middle of the desert. Markus became involved with the daughter of one of Kenlefia's shamans. Still, the father, unhappy with this union, set the girls' younger sister to proclaim possibly false words about Markus's deeds. The truth of this matter is not known, but what is known is that the deeply religious Kenlefians named Markus "The Abuser" and sentenced him to death at Vacar Slab. The journey from Kenlefia to Vacar Slab was perilous, and the party members died sequentially. Two were ambushed by Aerathi berserkers and killed. A poisonous viper bit one. Their water-bearer Teeth fell off a cliff with most of their water. Then D'Bray, their flagbearer died of thirst, and Cleatin, their Gray Ogre protector was killed by a Duneclaw. Methos collapsed within a day of reaching their goal, dying of thirst before he could achieve it. Methos's sister Ophelia and the Akron Legionnaire Spirokai brought Markus the rest of the way, but they were caught in a Sandstorm, during which Ophelia freed Markus and tried to escape. Spirokai caught them though, and buried Markus up to the neck. He was about to do the same to Ophelia for betraying him when suddenly a zombified Teeth showed up and slashed Spirokai in the head with his sword. A curse of undeath struck Teeth, and to end it, he wrapped himself up in the last of their bandages, becoming a mummy. Before dying, the Abuser told Ophelia his name was Markus. Now alone but carrying a weapon and water, Ophelia left Vacar Slab alone. But behind her, Spirokai had survived both his head wound and being buried alive, and started to claw his way out.[1]
