Malanai was a human from northern Aerona, born among the Hurloon.

History

Malanai was born in the home of the Hurloon minotaur Hamu, to Ikenet who had been taken in and cared for there. It was Hamu who suggested her name, which means "Morning Star" in the Hurloon language. Ikenet, a trained acrobat, taught Hamu how to dance, tended to his home, and brewed tea. Hamu provided them both with food and shelter. During the annual contest between the males, Ikenet performed together with Hamu, earning the Great Mother Makura's favor and much adoration from the crowd. However, the wrestling contest held to decide which male got to breed with the most desirable female was won by the arrogant Herhoona, who earlier injured Hamu and threatened Ikenet. Despite Herhoona's victory, Makura chose Hamu as her Consort once again, even allowing Hamu to meet his son Amahu. Herhoona was enraged at this insult and charged Makura, but was tackled down by other males and executed by one of the Grandmothers for endangering a Mother and her child. Ikenet eventually left Hurloon with Malanai but was asked to bring other Horn Dancers back so that the new tradition could continue. [1]
