Macar is a legendary king of an unnamed city on Theros.
History
Macar infamously can make everything and everyone he touches into gold. Exactly how this gold curse came about is unknown, but Macar can be seen surrounded by giant piles of gold, including a golden statue of his pet cat and a young woman, possibly his wife or daughter.[1]
Trivia
- Macar is inspired by the legend of Midas, who turned everything he touched into gold. In some versions of the story, he regretted his gift the most when his daughter also turned to gold at his touch, which suggests that Macar's own daughter and pet cat were petrified by his gift.
- Macar was planned to appear as an Erebos-aligned king of a distant polis in D&D Mythic Odysseys of Theros, but was cut before the final printing.[2]
