Taranika is a legendary soldier and the current regent of the warlike polis of Akros, located on the plane of Theros. A skilled warrior and steadfast leader, she is also known for her deep admiration of the planeswalker Gideon Jura, whom she honors by his Akroan name, Kytheon. In her view, Kytheon’s legacy remains alive, and she believes he still watches over Akros, offering strength and guidance to its people.[1]
History
Taranika was born into the noble lineage of Akros and is the niece of the renowned King Anax. After Anax’s death and the mysterious disappearance of his wife, Queen Cymede — who was said to have ascended to Nyx in a blaze of divine fire — Akros was left without a clear heir. As the closest eligible relative in the royal bloodline, Taranika was appointed by the lektoi to assume the role of regent, charged with leading the polis through a time of great uncertainty and political unrest. Her stewardship came at a time when Akros was still recovering from war and divine upheaval, and rumors of Anax’s possible return as a Nyxborn figure only deepened the uncertainty of the succession.[2]
