Perisophia is a centaur philosopher and teacher on the plane of Theros. She is the leader of the dominant Elpidian school of philosophers and the senior Speaker of The Twelve, the ruling council of Meletis. She is also a Chosen of the god Ephara. Perisophia has graying hair and wears a simple white peplos dress with a blue border.
History
Perisophia was taught classes on philosophy, where she discussed with her students, like the Socratic method. An example of one such conversation was on the topic of identity, in which she used the examples of a Leonin raised by wolves and the nature of the Returned and their eidolons. They would also examine the statements of other Theran philosophers, including Phelos and Matatios.
Ephara would frequently visit Perisophia through her dreams, asking for updates about Meletis. In one such conversation, the god warned her champion of the coming of Xenagos, who would the ideals of the polis.[5]
In her role as Speaker of the Twelve, Perisophia often served as a judge regarding matters concerning the community. In one instance, she was approached by the leader of a Meletian phalanx about the presence of the Lachrymosa called the Weeping Woman at Asphodel, who stole children and turned them into Returned. Unable to kill the children, he sought a penalty for failing to take action, but Perisophia instead named him an honored servant of their people for his tenderness. The assembly then agreed to hold a blood ritual in the saltmarsh to banish the Lachrymosa, which Perisophia took part in. The following morning, she observed an eidolon dancing in the agora.[6]
In another instance, upon hearing rumors that agents of Purphoros were hunting Iris, an oracle of Ephara, Perisophia had her escorted in secret by Skyguard Alexio to the garrison at Soli. She would later find out that neither arrived at Soli, as Alexio had been killed and Iris had escaped on a loyal pegasus.[7]
