Krov was the capital city of the kingdom of Kjeldor on Terisiare in Dominaria near the last five hundred years of the Ice Age.
Description
Krov was known for its great public buildings, the mightiest in the known world at the time, and its Royal Academy of Magic with its thin, ornate spires. The city was a white jumble of buildings with wide, open-air markets and newer canvas-covered ones. It was also the location of Arcum's Weathervane. There were six skyknight aeries shaped like giant mushrooms scattered across the city, and the royal castle was a collection of massive, squat blocks and towers. It had numerous taverns, among them the Great Dragon Inn. During the last part of the Ice Age, it seemed that a new golden age was building for Kjeldor.[1]
History
Krov was initially founded as a trade post, that grew into a thriving merchant city. It eventually overtook the capital of Kjeld as the largest city in Kjeldor, and at one point, the royal throne and family moved to the still-expanding Krov, although the summer palace remained in Kjeld for the royal family to have a secondary home there. Krov flourished as a city more than both Kjeld and Soldev, and the glaciers were kept at bay by the city's resident wizards.[1]
However, the capital came under hard times after the casting of the World Spell. The Thaw created a warmer climate in which disease proliferated, and Krov was ravaged by a series of plagues that left its population suffering. Vampires and zombies started infesting the city's darker corners, and a new powerful threat emerged from inside the city's walls - the powerful vampire Garza Zol, known as the "Plague Queen".[2] This forced the royal family to relocate to the city of Kjeld and quarantine the plague victims inside the walls of Krov. Many of the citizens perished, and Krov's vampires and elementalists joined forces with the Cult of Rimewind, who used Krov's libraries to locate Phyrexian war machines. When the Rimewind cult's leader Heidar turned on Krov, Garza Zol ordered his assassination.[3]
A few years after this, plague-haunted Krov was washed out to the rising oceans, and its ruins now lie beneath the Shattered Sea.[4]
