Chaeska, Keeper of Tresserhorn, was the strongest of Lim-Dûl's undead minions during the Ice Age of Dominaria.[1]
Description
Chaeska was huge, almost the size of an ogre - tall and broad-shouldered and dressed in heavy armor and robes that opened in the front to reveal a white tunic, and a tabard the size of a king's table cloth bound with ebony bands. He wore a broad leather belt, from which hung a great axe. His helmet was a thick metal cap topped with short horns. His face was a massive collection of muscles and fat with only the barest hint of features. His eyes glowed red, his voice rolled like thunder across the valley floor, and he had skewed peglike teeth. Although he looked human, he was undead, a construct of bones covered with muscle and skin. Chaeska was a master of combat and skill of arms, a general over a waiting army of hundreds of undead warriors.[1][2]
History
It is not known who or what created Chaeska, but he predated Lim-Dûl by more than 2000 years. Chaeska built Tresserhorn on the site of the former Conclave of Mages in 470 AR, 20 years after the Start of the Ice Age. He became castellan of the keep, the citadel's governor in its master's absence.
Millennia later, he attended to Jodah, who was kept prisoner in one of the cells of the fortress. When Jaya Ballard came to rescue Jodah, Chaeska caught them. Jodah severed one of his arms and set him on fire before he fled back to Lim-Dûl.[1]
Chaeska was present for Lim-Dûl's Battle, where he wielded the sword arm of the dismantled Márton Stromgald. He faced off against Jaya Ballard, wearing a red ward to protect himself against her fire spells, but she used blue mana and cast Unsummon on him, returning him directly to the halls to Tresserhorn. Not long afterward, the World Spell burned out the safe haven on the mountaintop above Tresserhorn, sending a massive avalanche over the keep.[1]
After Kjeldor and Balduvia defeated the legions of Lim-Dûl, Chaeska constructed an undead replacement for Lim-Dûl dubbed the Lord of Tresserhorn, so that the remainder of Lim-Dûl broken undead could have someone to fight for, to keep the undead from rebelling. Jodah and Jaya returned to Tresserhorn 20 years after the battle, and Jaya-Mairsil forced Chaeska to submit. However, the Lord of Tresserhorn attacked them, and Jodah was forced to destroy it by blasting a hole in its chest. A mourning Chaeska then promised to stay out of their way and not harm them, hoping to rebuild his Lord, and Jodah and Jaya agreed, leaving Chaeska to his grief.[2]
The Knights of Stromgald eventually overpowered Chaeska and his skeletal guard and took over the running of Tresserhorn as its new keepers.[3] Tresserhorn itself was later torn down by the united forces of New Argive, and eventually became submerged beneath the Sea of Laments.
