The Great Glacier was one of the great glaciers covering parts of Terisiare during the Ice Age on Dominaria.
History
The glacier grew over the Lat-Nam straits and the western shore of the continent, and buried such varied places as the Urhaalan Valley, Eln Forest, Shingol, Iwset, Jehesic, the City of Shadows and the Halquina Mountains of Almaaz beneath tons of ice. With such large amounts of seawater being locked into the glacier, the sea levels sank markedly, draining the straits of their water and connecting Lat-Nam with mainland Terisiare.
Jodah utilized the presence of the glacier to the benefit of the School of the Unseen, magically erecting a Glacial Wall at the edge of the glacier, thus ensuring nobody would be able to cross the glacier on foot. This effectively protected the school from incursion until after the start of the Thaw, when the land the school stood on started to be reclaimed by the sea and the glacier started to melt.
During the Flooding of Terisiare, the Great Glacier retreated fully, leaving behind a wider strait and once again making Lat-Nam an island. Little of what had been covered by the glacier remained after thousands of years, the last peaks of the Halquina mountains now forming an archipelago southwest of Almaaz.
