Ittono Khairt ni Hata Kan was a wrestler from Oneah on Dominaria, who became a Black Knight.
Name
According to the Onean tradition, Ittono was his family name, Khairt was his personal-name, while ni Hata Kan signified that he trained as a wrestler under master Telina Hata.
History
Khairt was the Grand Champion of Master Telina Hata's wrestling school. During the Fall of Oneah in 4165 AR, he stood in Xa-On and faced down the hordes of goblins along with his master and his other colleagues, including Istini Ayesh ni Hata Kan. As the monks started falling one by one, Ayesh witnessed Khairt fall by a blow to his head. Thinking him dead, Ayesh hid in a grate beneath the Roof of Lights. She was stuck there for days, and in the meantime, Khairt came to and found all his companions slain. So it came to pass that both Khairt and Ayesh survived, thinking they were the sole survivor.[1]
Afterward, Khairt traveled in despair north to the kingdom of Amjad, where he found employment as a Black Knight working for the land's eponymous king. He covered his tattooed body with black armor and was forced to work with the flamboyant Royal Assassin Daisilodavi, whom he hated for his flowery and frivolous nature. The assassin likewise hated Khairt back for his blunt anger and no-nonsense attitude. At some point, some years after the Fall of Oneah, the king sent Khairt with Daisilodavi to the Heart of Shanodin to murder Lord Glinham, a defector who had refused to pay his dues to the king.
While in Shanodin, Khairt became enchanted by the magic of the Heart, which revealed each person's true self. Khairt removed his armor and bathed in the stream, staring dreamily at the beauty of the forest and falling in love with a Shanodin dryad. His dream ended when Daisilodavi, having finished the business of assassinating Lord Glinham, broke the spell on Khairt by murdering the dryad. Though Khairt was shocked and repulsed by this action, he did not retaliate against the assassin, knowing it would be a fight he would likely lose, but still he refused to return to Amjad. Daisilodavi then professed to Khairt that he felt something more for the knight than animosity. Though surprised at this, Khairt found himself feeling a reciprocation, revealed to him by the Heart of Shanodin. Together, the two of them left the forest, riding back to the dark lands of Amjad, but now with a new bond forged between them.[2]
