Gormank was an ogre from northern Aerona, part of the Domains of Dominaria.

History

In c. 4100 AR, Gormank traveled with a Benalish Hero to the city of Coraleon in North Aerona. There he wanted the wizard Boxx to resurrect the elvish woman Eorra. Unfortunately, Coraleon's Festival of Sorrow was going on, and the Lady of Sorrow, Dolores forbade the use of magic for the duration of the festival. An oracle had foretold Gormank he had to do the resurrection within that day though, or Eorra would be lost to the grave forever. Gormank found Boxx's Scavenging Ghoul, who brought the ogre to the wizard. It turned out that Boxx was indeed a box, or at least used a box as a stand-in for his own body. Gormank bribed the wizard's box with a magical amulet and promised he would fight Dolores if necessary to go ahead with the plan. The ogre, the ghoul, and the box traveled to the cemetery, and eventually found Eorra's grave, fending off the inquisitive Dolores on the way. Boxx went ahead and resurrected Eorra, but she was severely weakened from having been dead for almost a week. It turned out that Eorra was the only person to ever best Gormank in combat, and she even did it twice - so Gormank wanted to kill her personally to reclaim his honor, as someone else had stolen that honor from him when they killed Eorra in combat. But in her post-dead state, she was barely able to speak, let alone fight. Gormank, who had boasted he never felt sorrow, realized he could never restore his honor. Dolores showed up again and revealed that she let the resurrection ritual commence without interfering even despite the active use of magic during the festival, as she had seen into Gormank's soul and knew that the result would crush him. She walked off triumphantly, and Gormank dejectedly joined the Festival of Sorrow in his grief over the failed ritual.[1]
