The Dueling Chasm of Golthonor is an immense canyon located on Dominaria's continent of Corondor.

Description

The Dueling Chasm is a huge rift running through the central part of Golthonor, just east of the Spine. Though once marshland, the area has since dried up, and now consists of bare rock pillars and deep ravines with deadly falls to the bottom.

History

This was once a flat marshland located in the northern part of Khone. The chasm and its pillars formed in the Time of Legends from the explosion of power that was released when Dakkon Blackblade used the Black Blade to slay the Elder Dragon Piru after Geyadrone Dihada summoned her and Chromium Rhuell to fight him for her. Dihada's plot was to get Dakkon to kill one of the dragons so that she could absorb the power from a dragon's soul, which she succeeded in doing.[1]

Millennia later, in 4196 AR, it was where Jared Carthalion, Kristina of the Woods, Altair of Coloni, and Caliphear the Nightmare had a battle against Ravidel. Jared destroyed the various monoliths in the canyon with a powerful spell during the battle. From here, Ravidel performed the Activation of the Mox Beacon and then disappeared in the chaos of the crumbling monoliths of the chasm. Shortly afterward, Jared ascended and became a planeswalker in time to planeswalk away from the crumbling monoliths and save Kristina from falling or being crushed. Altair of Coloni was killed in this battle.
