Bulp is a goblin from Dominaria, and Squee's ward.
Description
Bulp is a goblin who stands out among his kind for his unusually large and robust frame, suggesting the build of a warrior. However, what sets him apart even more is his intellectual curiosity and thoughtful nature, traits atypical for goblins, who usually thrive on chaos and impulsiveness. As a child, Bulp was often teased for his awkward combination of physical strength and scholarly inclinations. King Squee, the immortal goblin leader, took Bulp under his wing, recognizing a kindred spirit in the young goblin's uniqueness and potential. Squee saw Bulp as a promising figure, capable of becoming the smartest goblin since Squee himself.[1]
History
Bulp's defining moment came during a week of peace in Squee's goblin clan, a rare period without any goblin deaths, which was to be celebrated with a feast. As Squee prepared for the festivities, Bulp arrived with disturbing news: Rarp, a fellow goblin, had been crushed under a boulder at the entrance to their mountain home. However, the real shock came when Squee and Bulp discovered that Rarp was not only alive but leaking a strange black oil, indicating that he had been turned into a Phyrexian sleeper agent. This horrifying revelation indicated that the Phyrexian menace, long thought defeated, was resurfacing.
In the ensuing chaos, Bulp displayed remarkable bravery and loyalty. Tasked by Squee to seek help from the outside world, Bulp boldly ventured forth to warn the nearby villages of this threat and reached a nearby human town, where he reported the resurgence of the Phyrexians.
In the meantime, the corrupted Ertai had assumed Bulp's form briefly, before revealing his true self to Squee. Squee, thinking this meant that Bulp had been killed, despaired. When the real Bulp returned home from his mission, he found the entire mountain in ruins, the result of a devastating explosion triggered by an accident on Squee's part. Bulp was thus reunited with Squee, who had survived the ordeal yet again with one single life remaining to him while wiping out his entire Phyrexian kingdom in the process.[1]
