Gryta is an angel of the Flight of Herons on Innistrad.

Description

Her deep brown eyes seem wholly human and her speech is flawless.

History

Gryta attended a meeting between Avacyn and a man named Dovid where he was tasked with cleaning out the long abandoned Lofts of Thraben cathedral, so that the angels of Innistrad may once more use it as a place of rest. Gryta was to be his guide. Gryta bid Dovid meet her at the bricked-up arch high up on the wall of the cathedral.

Gryta waited there for Dovid, who spent hours searching for how to get up. She saw his fear of heights, and dispelled his worries, assuring him he was safe with her. She then cast an angelic spell, giving Dovid magical access to enter the Lofts. She then bid Dovid clear the cistern in the Lofts, then flew off, leaving Dovid to his devices.

The fragments of Helvault were collected after it split, and the raw silver ore was distributed among the most distinguished lunar smiths. A family of swords was forged from that metal, and Gryta dictated a list of names she had received from Avacyn, persons who were to be honored at a feast where the Flights presided. Gryta added Dovid's name at the top of the list of honored Cathars who would receive a silver sword from the Helvault.

It is unknown what happened to Gryta during the events of Eldritch Moon, but as an angel of a Flight of Herons, she would not have been driven mad by Emrakul's voices, and may still be alive on Innistrad as part of Sigarda's flight.
