Plot

A Prodigal Sorcerer called Arlen has left the Institute of Arcane Study on Dominaria to figure out why those born in the city of Estark are so gifted in magic. His quest is witnessed by an invisible and intangible Leshrac, who gives a monologue about his fate. After Shandalar he had settled some old scores before settling in Estark to try his hand at white magic. Everything was going well until Ravidel turned up, and in the subsequent duel he deliberately forced Leshrac to spend all his mana on counterspells, rendering him unable to respond when Taysir put him into an Oubliette.[1]

Taysir tells Leshrac of his plan to use his life energy to re-enter Rabiah, just like Leshrac himself had done with Chromium Rhuell to enter Shandalar. Taysir reveals to Layshrac that he previously had asked Kristina of the Woods to give her energy for this and join him as his mortal wife on Rabiah, but she had refused him. [1]

As Ravidel and Taysir start draining Leshrac's power, he makes a desperate gambit, casting a spell to save his life. Leshrac's gambit partially pays off, as the portal to Rabiah fails and Leshrac lives but is still trapped in the oubliette as an incorporeal shade, visible only to Taysir. His excess energy then flows into the people of Estark, explaining the abilities of the wizards there.[1]

After he's finished recounting his history, Leshrac is visited by Taysir again, this time after his time spent on Ulgrotha. Reborn, but looking old and withered after centuries with the Anaba, Taysir has come to check if Leshrac's imprisonment has had the same cleansing effect on him. As it turns out, Leshrac has only grown in hate. Leshrac tries to torment Taysir with phantasms of multitudes of dying, bleeding Taysirs; ravaged and tortured Kristinas; and triumphant, betraying Ravidels. Taysir tells Leshrac that he is sorry, and had no right to use him for his ritual, and that had Leshrac changed, Taysir would have released him at that moment. However, after revealing what a horrid, hateful creature Leshrac is, Taysir feels justified in keeping him locked up and leaves him to his misery.[1]

Leshrac's monologue and his discussion with Taysir all happened unseen in the campsite of Arlen, the Prodigal Sorcerer on his quest for information. Still there, Leshrac then manifests his hand in the real world and cuts the poor wizard's throat, just because he can. Just that hand, just for that short time is all the corporability he can manage for now, but Leshrac is confident he will soon be able to escape his prison completely. He is already able to cast illusory images beyond his prison, and he has discovered Ravidel's plans for the Mox Beacon, which he will be able to use to escape for good.[1]
