Thranegeld was a dwarven docent at the Tolarian Academy of Lat-Nam.
Description
Thranegeld was a florid-faced dwarven artificer with a gravelly voice, known for his stern demeanor and practical approach to education. He served as a docent at the Tolarian Academy, where he instructed students in subjects related to ancient history and magic, particularly focusing on the period before the Rift Era. Thranegeld had a keen interest in the ancient world and its mysteries, which often manifested in his assignments and projects for students. Thranegeld was pragmatic and perceptive, traits that made him an effective teacher but also a paranoid figure when it came to guarding the academy against potential threats, such as Phyrexian agents.[1]
History
Thranegeld's background as an artificer and historian has led him to become a respected figure at the Tolarian Academy. His expertise in the ancient world, particularly in the lore surrounding significant historical events like the sylex blast, positioned him as a valuable educator. Thranegeld's suspicions about the presence of Phyrexian agents in the academy showed his deep concern for the institution's safety and the integrity of its magical studies.
He played a pivotal role in the life of Ulf, a struggling student at the academy. Despite Ulf's poor performance in practical magic and artifice, Thranegeld recognized his potential in research and assigned him a special project on the history of Corondor, a mysterious and ancient realm that had been lost to civilization for centuries. Thranegeld's suspicions about Phyrexian infiltration at the academy were further revealed when he investigated Ulf's potential, even using a magical device to ensure that Ulf was not a Phyrexian agent.
Thranegeld's involvement took a darker turn when Ulf discovered a lost tome detailing the history and possible weaknesses of Sol'Kanar, the Demon King of Corondor. Recognizing the tome's importance, Thranegeld advised Ulf to keep it hidden and not to trust anyone else with its contents. However, the dangers became evident when Phyrexian agents within the academy, including a disguised docent, Silas Brotten, targeted Ulf and the tome.
Tragically, Thranegeld met a grim fate, found dead in his chambers with a look of terror etched on his face, suggesting he encountered something horrific, likely Silas Brotten himself in his Phyrexian form. Thranegeld's death underscored the threat posed by the Phyrexians and the importance of the information contained in the tome Ulf discovered.[1]
