Silas Brotten was a human docent at the Tolarian Academy of Lat-Nam, and secretly a Phyrexian agent.
Description
Silas Brotten was an advanced docent at the Tolarian Academy, known for his expertise in Old Vodalian and ancient lore. He presented a distinguished, scholarly appearance, often seen with a pipe and surrounded by old manuscripts. Brotten initially appeared condescending towards students, especially Ulf, whom he mistakenly believed was part of the agricultural program. However, Brotten's true nature was revealed as a sinister figure with a hidden agenda, connected to the malevolentPhyrexians. He ultimately revealed his Phyrexian nature, shedding his human guise to reveal a mechanical, terrifying form, driven by a relentless desire to obtain a mysterious book that Ulf had found.[1]
History
Silas Brotten served as a revered scholar at the Tolarian Academy, specializing in ancient languages and lore. He was respected for his academic contributions and held a position that allowed him access to advanced students and sensitive information. However, beneath this respectable facade, Brotten was secretly a Phyrexian agent — a being partially composed of flesh and machine, dedicated to the Phyrexian cause of domination and transformation of all life. His role at the academy was a cover for his true mission: to infiltrate, gather intelligence, and corrupt the institution from within. Brotten's duplicity was uncovered when he showed his true form while trying to seize a significant book discovered by Ulf, a student. This book, containing ancient secrets about Corondor and the Demon King Sol'Kanar, held the potential to disrupt Phyrexian plans. Brotten's exposure marked a pivotal moment, highlighting the pervasive threat of Phyrexian infiltration within even the most secure and hallowed institutions of research. Silas murdered Ulf's three roommates and his fellow docent, the dwarf Thranegeld, in search of the book, not knowing Ulf had hidden it in the stables. After a chase through the hallways and a siege of the library where Ulf had hidden with the book, Silas was attacked by Jared Carthalion, a planeswalker from Corondor. After a short but brutal fight, Jared got the upper hand and managed to kill Silas.[1]
