Rael is the battle angel and Protector of Caligo Morass on Dominaria. Thiago is her second in command.

Description

Rael stands as a formidable presence with her burnished bronze skin and hair like a dark cloud. Her wings have brilliant white feathers that darken to gray at the tips. She is clad in plate armor over chain mail, and her sword, almost as tall as a man, rests by her side. When fighting the Cabal, her white tabard was stained with blood, and her armor showed the dents and scrapes from recent battles.

Rael is stoic and serious, expressionless and cautious when approached by Gideon and Liliana. She speaks flatly and shows little emotion, her voice tinged with irony when she does react. Despite her grim exterior, there are moments when irritation or hope flickers across her face, indicating deeper layers to her personality. She is pragmatic and realistic, understanding the dire situation her forces are in and the limitations they face against the Cabal. Her protective nature and sense of duty are evident as she evaluates Gideon and Liliana's offer for help, ultimately driven by a desire to see her mission through despite past failures.

History

Rael led the Benalish forces against the Cabal in Caligo Morass, though the battle ended in a significant defeat. Her forces were scattered and forced into hiding, leaving her to contend with the aftermath and seek ways to regroup. When Gideon and Liliana arrived, she collaborated with them to gather the remaining Benalish soldiers and knights, preparing for a strategic stand against the Cabal's leader, the lich Josu. Rael's leadership and determination helped rally the demoralized troops, setting the stage for a pivotal confrontation. Her involvement was crucial in the plan to exploit Josu's weaknesses and ultimately confront the Cabal's undead forces in a bid to reclaim Caligo from their grasp.
