The Peace Talks at Kroog was the second of the two peace summits preluding the start of the Brothers' War.
Description
This time, it was Mishra who initiated the invitation to the summit, after having acquired three more dragon engines from Koilos. The peace summit included only Yotia and the Fallaji Empire, leaving both Korlis and Argive out of the talks. The Fallaji came with a single dragon engine, ostensibly dragging Mishra's War Machine, which was almost as large as itself, and the Yotians still had their ornithopters. In addition, Urza's workshop had begun to produce avengers with better shapeshifting abilities, although these were yet untested.[1]
The peace talks appeared to start well, with both sides appearing to show courtesy, hospitality, and respect, although the tension could not be hidden. A peace treaty was proposed, which would acknowledge the Sword Marches as sovereign Yotian territory, with several minor concessions on Yotia's part. The sticking point, though, was that the treaty included the handover of the Mightstone from Urza to Mishra. Urza refused this and got into a very loud argument with his wife, Kayla bin-Kroog, who wanted to proceed with the deal, seeing little harm in sacrificing a single power stone. Urza, however, would not budge.[1]
A plan was formed in secret, where Ashnod would lure Tawnos away, while Kayla got her husband severely drunk and then stole his Mightstone away. She then went to Mishra's quarters, delivered the stone to him, and slept with him. However, Ashnod let slip too much information, allowing Tawnos to figure out something was amiss. He woke Urza, and the artificer stormed to Mishra's room, confronting him. Again, a battle between the stones ensued, but just as Kayla was about to step into the warring beams, Urza lowered his stone. This allowed Mishra to zap him with the Weakstone and barge out. The Fallaji withdrew from Kroog, but Ashnod was taken prisoner in her quarters. Urza was livid and sent several scouts into the desert to track Mishra, who had planted several false leads for him to follow. At the same time, he positioned his maq fawa and his war machine to strike at the very heart of Yotia.[1]
