Mishra's War Machine was a Thran-constructed artifact weapon discovered by Mishra in the Great Desert of Terisiare. Unlike the more advanced dragon engines under his command, the war machine was in a damaged state and possessed less destructive power. Nevertheless, it served a critical role in one of Mishra's most notable strategic deceptions during the Brothers' War.

History

Mishra employed the war machine as part of a calculated show of force during the Peace Talks at Kroog. Rolling it into the negotiations alongside a dragon engine, he used the display to intimidate the Yotians, who suspected the unusual device might conceal a hidden weapon or function as a kind of Trojan Horse. When the peace talks collapsed, the war machine withdrew into the surrounding desert, disappearing from immediate pursuit.

Weeks later, Urza's lieutenant Sharaman spotted the war machine to the southwest of the Sword Marches, prompting Urza to lead an aerial assault. Pilots aboard a squadron of ornithopters launched an attack, unaware that the machine had been left as bait. The Fallaji camp near the machine was completely deserted, and the war machine itself was automated, tracking and firing upon airborne targets. In the ensuing battle, it successfully shot down every ornithopter except Urza's own. Urza managed to destroy the device by bombing it, triggering a powerful explosion.

The operation proved to be a diversion. While Urza was occupied with the decoy, Mishra's forces struck directly at Kroog, leading to the city's destruction in the Fall of Kroog. Urza’s absence from the city ensured that the attack became one of Mishra’s most decisive victories in the war.[1]
