Nemata was one of the magnigoth lords from the forest of Yavimaya on Dominaria. He was over three thousand feet tall and served as the guardian of Rith's Grove for millennia.[1]

Description

Nemata is a massive magnigoth tree around three thousand feet tall. Its crown could hold aloft an elven city. Large white blooms spread across the peak and showered gleaming pollen through the air. Gigantic Kavu bask among its branches, letting the sun warm their reptilian blood. Below, foliage spreads in four more levels down the huge trunk. Each had its climate, fauna, and flora. The base of the tree is a swollen knob of wood that bristles with spikes.[2]

History

The primeval dragon Rith was originally imprisoned inside Nemata in Yavimaya by the Numena, but was the first to be freed by Rhammidarigaaz after Tevesh Szat told him of the legend of the Primevals. Once free, she dominated Darigaaz's mind, convincing him to free all of the primevals regardless of the cost to mortal dragon lives.

Nemata was among the Magnigoth Treefolk who traveled from Yavimaya to Urborg to recapture Rith. The lead treefolk ripped her out of the sky and swallowed her before returning to Yavimaya. Multani saw Nemata dwarfing the shagback hickories of Urborg, while the treefolk was swatting boughs through a swarm of dragon engines like a man struggles to drive off a swarm of bats.

Only three treefolk were said to be present at the first anniversary of the end of the Phyrexian Invasion. Though they weren't named, one can presume to have been Nemata.

Dominaria United

Rith's sudden escape during the Second Phyrexian Invasion of Dominaria left Nemata furious, and he woke his fellow treefolk to recapture the dragon.[1]

Note

The description of the magnigoth guardian in which Rith was imprisoned more closely resembles another magnigoth treefolk, Verdeloth the Ancient.
