Avohir is a god that is worshipped in the kingdom of Efuan Pincar in northern Gulmany, part of the Terisian Isles on the plane of Dominaria.
Description
It is not known if Avohir was ever a real person of some kind, or merely a pure religious device for the Efuands. The temple to Avohir did have a room called "Avohir's crypt", but it is unclear if that was merely a name or if it contained Avohir's actual tomb. The myths stated that Avohir's home was in the sea.[1]
History
The origin of the worship of Avohir is unknown, but Efuan Pincar was settled after the Flooding of Terisiare had melted the Ronom Glacier revealing the northern shore of Gulmany for the first time. According to legend, boats carrying 300 people from Argive came to the shores and settled the land. Historically, the Argivians were famously agnostic, so likely the rise of Avohir as a god happened at the site of Efuan Pincar.[1]
A few hundred years later, the worship of Avohir had spread to the whole kingdom, and temples or shrines to Avohir were in every city or village. Ratepe was a follower of Avohir's religion, and invoked Avohir's name often. When Urza destroyed the sleeper agents of Gulmany, he took the opportunity to make a great golden dragon, shimmering and semi-transparent, to rescue the holy book of Avohir and the Efuand king Tabarna, before flying out to sea, Avohir's home according to myths. This likely strongly reinforced the Efuands' belief in Avohir going forward.[1]
